Parents with children, family

Therapy for parents dealing with challenging kid behaviors that actually works.

Parents are people, and people aren’t perfect and that’s okay.

Parenting in the best of circumstances is hard. But when your child is struggling with difficult behavior, that’s brutal.

I often hear from my clients they feel shame that they are doing this parenting thing all wrong, feel lost in all the noise of parenting advice, and disconnected from their partners, child, and even themselves. But it doesn’t have to be that way, I can help.

You bring the knowledge and expertise of your child, and I bring the research, best practices, and support in behavior. Together we develop personalized behavioral strategies, interventions, disciplinary approaches, and coping skills to meet the unique needs of your child.

Hi, I’m Stephanie

I love working with kids and teens, and deconstructing behavior. What I have learned through the years is when a child exhibits a difficult behavior, well meaning parents connect their child to individual therapy. And while there is a time and place for that, individual therapy alone will not solve the problem of behavior.

Behavior does not exist in a vacuum, it is a response to environmental factors. So when the focus is on the child learning to manage their own behaviors, the behavior does not go away because the environmental factors causing it have not changed.

And, kids and teens are at a disadvantage due to their underdeveloped prefrontal cortex, the brain structure that manages our emotions and behaviors. This disadvantage makes it unreasonable to expect a child, and even a teen, to be able to understand their own behavior and change it.

Every one of the kids and teens I have worked with have desperately wanted to connect with their parents. So what your child needs most is you, their parent. So now, I work directly with parents to teach them the best ways to manage their child’s behaviors so they fade over time, while maintaining, and even strengthening, the relationship between parent and child.

Support Offered

Individual

I work one on one with parents to support their parenting approach to curb challenging behaviors. I also support parents with their own mental health that may be impacting how they are able to parent. I also work individually with kids and teens as appropriate in person and in the virtual setting.

Family & Couples

Behavior doesn’t just impact the child or teen struggling, behavior impacts the entire family unit. I work with the whole family unit, and sometimes that includes co-parents, step-parents, etc., so the full family can function together. Depending on the family and behavior, this may also include coaching parents to manage behavior in their environment with Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Consulting

Behavior is multifaceted and requires consistency across environments. Most kids and teens spend the bulk of their time at home and school. I consult with families, educators, schools, and districts to support child/student behaviors.

Parenting takes a village, yet most parents are on their own. You are a great parent, you just need a little support and new skills for your unique child. That is exactly what I am here for. I am here to support parents that are struggling with parenting. Let me support you so you can get back to enjoying your child.
